Nearly 40 years after Francis Moore Lappé wrote Diet for a Small Planet-one of the first books to take a hard look at the environmental and health problems caused by the meat industry-her daughter Anna Lappé has written a book exposing how the industrial food system is contributing to climate change. In Diet for a Hot Planet, Anna describes how are diets can be a crucial tool in the fight against global warming-and she gives a recipe for what an environmentally sustainable diet should look like, including more locally grown foods and eating less meat.

For more information, check out Anna's "Taking a Bite Out of Climate Change" website.

Almost all of your "diaries" or reports from Africa show images of your and Bernard with someone in Africa. Kind of like a photo album one might take on a vacation or adventure or trip.

There's nothing wrong with that. I'm just wondering. Is this a personal journey or is this a journey you are doing as people who are funded or employed by someone?

I mean,  if your just on a journey on your own expense or the expense of your parents then what your doing is perfectly fine from my point of view.

I looked up on google border jumpers and I have never seen so many links. There are pages upon pages about border jumpers.

It seems that border jumpers is something that is being promoted. It's being marketed. It's promotional. As if there is some kind of end game or ultimate point you are trying to reach.

I notice Bernard has some kind of background as a promoter of political candidates, a marketer of candidates.

Why is border jumpers all over the internet on all these boards?

Is your trip funded or is it a personal trip around Africa?

borderjumpers is completely self / personally funded using savings accumluted from years working in progressive politics. It has no staff, all the promotion, linking, etc we do personally, and we use as minimal resources on the road as possible (totally budget travel), and we avoid most tourist areas or activities.

On your other question, our goal is to connect the countries of Africa, with people in the United States. To paint a picture other than the HIV/AIDS, famine, conflict, and desease image that the corporate media protrays. These images have made people "turn off" or close their minds to learning more about the continent. Yet, lots of good work is happening, inovations that need to be funded, shared and promoted. We don't have an end-game in terms of promoting the site (our audience is still much too small to worry about that), but we are just trying to engage as many people and audiences as possilble (and personally responding).

We really like interacting w/ readers who email us about new inovations we should write about, connect us with contacts on the ground, or share good projects that we should visit, ask us questions, etc. The goal is to create a really big dialogue about these ignored places.
